Apparently, Ben & Jerry’s support of the Black Lives Matter movement does not sit well with Blue Lives Matter.
On Monday, the police news website posted an article asking Americans to boycott Ben & Jerry’s. The request came after the Vermont-based ice cream manufacturer launched its own Black Lives Matter campaign on its company website on Thursday, Oct.6.
“Black lives matter,” read a statement posted on the site.
“They matter because they are children, brothers, sisters, mothers, and fathers.”
“They matter because the injustices they face steal from all of us — white people and people of color alike. They steal our very humanity.”
In another corresponding statement, B&J’s said, “It’s been hard to watch the list of unarmed Black Americans killed by law enforcement officers grow longer and longer.”
According to Blue Lives Matter, B&J’s has posted exaggerated citations and false information.
“The company’s Black Lives Matter campaign site cites numbers which are taken out of context or don’t even mean what the company claims they mean,” said an article posted to the Blue Lives Matter site on Friday.
“Between the citations, they throw in false information without citation, because the facts don’t support their statements.”
B&J’s support for the BLM movement also sparked controversy between FB users on the company’s FB page. Jeffrey Goncalves wrote “***** ****** using adjectives to describe things is not racist.”
“Racism is allowing police to kill one group of people in a disproportionate number and then claim that ‘everyone is equal’ while avoiding any labels at all, ” said Goncalves.
“Heya *******… BLM = KKK No more no less..go find a safe place and ride it out bud..lmao,” another Facebook user fired back.
In the article posted to the Blue Lives Matter site on Monday, the establishment asked Americans to boycott B&J’s.
“Blue Lives Matter is calling on all Americans to send a message to Ben & Jerry’s, and parent company Unilever, to boycott all Ben & Jerry’s products,” said the company’s article.
“Ben & Jerry’s just recently announced their support for Black Lives Matter along with a misinformation campaign accusing law enforcement of widespread systemic and institutionalized racism,” the article continued.
“Many companies have offered misguided statements of support for Black Lives Matter in the past, with the false belief that they are expressing support for civil rights.”
We are currently waiting for a response from both Ben & Jerry’s and Blue Lives Matter.
