Suge Knight made his name as a defensive player for the Los Angeles Rams and then as co-founder and CEO of Death Row Records, which brought the world Dr. Dre, Tupac Shakur, and Snoop Dogg, among many, many others.
Knight has had his share of legal issues throughout the years including robbery and hit-and-run charges. He has had public disputes with people like Snoop Dogg and Eminem, who he allegedly tried to have killed. In 2014 he was shot 6 times at a Chris Brown pre-awards show party and survived.
The hit-and-run incident involved associates of Knight involved with the film Straight Outta Compton and Knight was arrested and charged with murder and attempted murder. Security footage allegedly shows Knight “barreling” his red truck toward the two men and then fleeing the scene. He turned himself into authorities the next day.
In another case related to Straight Outta Compton, Knight was indicted Thursday for making threats to F. Gary Gray, the director of Straight Outta Compton; the alleged threats included bodily harm or death. The threats came several months before the fatal collision and both cases are taking place along with a separate case in which Knight is accused of robbery.
Knight was originally from Compton and had a strong influence on the 80s and 90s hip hop scene, which Straight Outta Compton depicts. Knight is depicted in the film.
- Knight, 53, was indicted by a grand jury in in Los Angeles and is scheduled for arraignment on August 3rd.
