Okay Hot Zoners, time is running out. There are only two more cruises left on the schedule for the 2015 Smooth Jazz Cruise series. So you’d better get your tickets fast.
The weekly summer cruise series is presented by Marquee Concerts aboard the magnificent Hornblower Infinity and is one of the best New York City has to offer. The Infinity is a breathtaking yacht accommodating up to 1000 guests complete with five dance floors, four fully stocked bars, a state-of-the-art sound system and custom blue LED lighting, perfect for a romantic night of smooth jazz sounds.
Last week, THZ was on board to enjoy one of the most accomplished jazz artists today…New York’s own, Najee. After being warmly greeted by the very professional crew, we were directed to the buffet area where a delectable cuisine awaited our arrival. Every item on the menu was beyond delicious. Grilled salmon, sautéed chicken breasts, penne alla vodka, mixed vegetables…you name it, it was there. And although we were stuffed after dinner, we could not resist the mouthwatering assortment of desserts and delicious cocktails calling our names.
Once our palates were thoroughly satisfied, it was time for the mellow sounds of the incomparable Najee. While sailing the Hudson River on a beautiful summer evening, the captivating view of the infamous New York City skyline was the perfect backdrop to the sensual sounds of the critically-acclaimed saxophonist and flautist. For almost two hours, he turned up the heat with his extraordinary talent.
Along with his 4-piece band, the set included some of Najee’s most beautiful hits including “Gina” from his Day By Day cd and his rendition of Anita Baker’s“Sweet Love” from the cd, Najee’s Theme. His perfection and enormous musical ability completely blew everyone away…and that was only the beginning.
We were then treated to a few songs from his recently-released cd, including the brilliantly-executed “You, Me and Forever” and “Biggest Part of Me” which showcased the vocal stylings of guitarist, Chuck Johnson. Mr. Johnson’s soulful tones and charismatic energy had everyone onboard singing right along with him.
But Najee wasn’t finished with us yet. He took us back with a number of beautiful selections including his Freddie Jackson collaboration, “All I Ever Ask” and a cover of Stevie Wonder’s “Knocks Me Off My Feet”. The ladies could not get enough of the musical genius who mesmerized us each and every moment until the Infinity returned to the Pier.
We’d like to express our gratitude to Marquee Concerts for providing THZ with VIP treatment. As usual, it was a wonderful summer evening in New York City. As we said at the beginning, only two cruises remain. This week, the amazing Rachelle Ferrell will bless us with her talent. For next week’s finale, Freddie Jackson will close out the series. You do not want to miss this, so get your tickets NOW!!!!
