A landlord is facing attempted murder charges after pushing South African filmmaker Sibahle Steve Nkumbi down a flight of stairs where she fell head first.
The AirBnB landlord got into an argument with the tourist and three of her friends when they showed up late to check out.
The video shows the man throwing clothes and suitcases belonging to the guests down the stairs while shouting “Out! Out!”.
He then abruptly says “out now” and pushes Ms. Nkumbi down the stairs were she falls head first and hits her head off the wall and ground, and then doesn’t move.
The landlord then runs down the stairs and shouts for help.
Ms. Nkumbi suffered minor injuries in hospital, including a concussion. She said the landlord began banging on their door telling them to get out. The last thing she remembers was the landlord grabbing her and thinking that he was going to throw her down the stairs.
“He was like open up open up open up and then we opened and this guy was extremely emotional… I asked him why he was being so emotional, we are leaving,” she said.
Ms. Nkumbi said the man became “verbally abusive” and said “you need to leave now, this is not Africa”.
Chief executive of AirBnB, Brian Chesky, said that the company would contact the guests involved.
The investigation is ongoing.
