President Donald Trump has tweeted Wednesday morning that his son, Donald Trump Jnr. is innocent.
The president defended his oldest son days after news emerged that Trump Jnr. met with Russian lawyers that had damaging information on Democrat Hillary Clinton during the 2016 presidential campaign.
Trump Jnr. appeared on Fox News on Tuesday night to talk about the controversy, and so Trump Snr. praised him on Twitter for it.
“My son Donald did a good job last night, he was open, transparent and innocent. This is the greatest Witch Hunt in political history. Sad!,” he tweeted.
The president also retweeted a tweet from Jesse Watters, a Fox News host. Watters said that he felt Trump Jnr. was the “victim” in the situation.
This is the first time Trump Snr. has spoken out since the news emerged of his son’s encounter with lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya.
Veselnitskaya said on Tuesday that the encounter was not on behalf of the Kremlin and but for something completely different – Russian adoptions.
Trump Jnr. said the meeting was a waste of his time, and also released emails showing he was told that the information he would be given about Clinton would be “highly useful” for his father and “part of Russia and its government’s support for Mr. Trump”.
“If it’s what you say I love it especially later in the summer,” Trump Jnr. replied.
Trump Jnr., after releasing the emails, said there was no other information to give on the topic.
The president tweeted on Tuesday a warning about the ‘Fake Media’.
“Remember, when you hear the words ‘sources say’ from the Fake Media, often times those sources are made up and do not exist,” he said.
