Last Wednesday August 5th, the “Smooth Cruise” took its crowd on a whimsical trip down the Hudson River. Food, drinks, and most importantly, a jazz concert by Dave Koz & Rick Braun with Special Guest Kenny Lattimore highlighted the trip that left its audience speechless.
It took me moments to realize the length of the line leading up to the Hornblower Infinity cruise as soon as I arrived. My eyes barely saw the end of the line as jazz-loving families, couples, and businessmen packed it. All of us were impatiently waiting to board the cruise that would take us on the outskirts of Manhattan and back to Pier 40.
The first thing I noticed going in was the beautiful setting of the stage and tables surrounding it. A mostly mature crowd who was enthusiastic to get the party started with loud jazz music and drinks from the bar quickly filled the seats, and it didn’t take too long before we heard the sound of jazz music.
The performances featured Dave Koz, who is a Grammy nominated jazz player with an accomplished history in music that is portrayed with artists like Ray Charles, Natalie Cole, Celine Dion, Shelby Lynne, Kenny Loggins, U2, Barry Manilow, Michael McDonald, Luther Vandross and Rod Stewart. We were also in the presence of Rick Braun, winner of Best Male Artist, Best Album, Song of the Year and Best Brass Player at the 2002 National Contemporary Jazz Awards in San Diego. But the crowd went especially crazy over Grammy Award-nominated singer/songwriter, Kenny Lattimore, who took us on the most beautiful journey when he sang “For You.”
Besides the wonderful music, the cruise offered an open buffet that included everything from salad, chicken, fish, pasta, and dessert! The Hornblower Infinity yacht welcomes you with multiple dance floors and plenty of room for dinning. Both the interior and the exterior of the yacht modeled a modern design with over-sized windows and benches on the roof.
On top of all of this, however, my favorite part had to be the breathtaking view of the city. The cruise took us all the way to the Statue of Liberty and back to Pier 40. Manhattan’s skyline was as sparkling as a diamond in the summer night, and it was absolutely mesmerizing to have experienced the beauty of the city from a perspective on the water.
You can experience the Smooth Cruise every Wednesday till September 2nd, 2017 and trust me, it is an unforgettable journey!
