A 14-year-old girl may be charged with assault and battery after throwing a baby carrot at a teacher’s forehead, in Virginia.
The school classified the baby carrot as a weapon regarding an incident at Moody Middle School.
“I don’t even know how to combat the stupidity,” said Karrie May, mother of 14-year-old Aliya.
The school suspended Aliya over the incident which involved one of the girl’s former teachers.
Aliya has been out of school for a month!
“I don’t understand this,”said May. “Yes, it happened, and I can see a couple of days in school detention or even a couple of days out-of-school suspension. But this goes way beyond that. We have to go to court, and her charges aren’t small: assault and battery with a weapon.”
Aliya threw the baby carrot as a joke at a teacher she’d had the year before. The vegetable hit the teacher in the forehead, according to the teen.
“This could go before a judge and there could be sufficient evidence to find her guilty, but I don’t think it’s something a judge would want to find her guilty of,” said legal expert Todd Stone. “They may offer her counseling, sort of a carrot at the end of a stick.”
May claimed that the school’s Disciplinary Review Board sent a letter trying to get her daughter to admit guilt in the incident. They “respectfully declined” and said they await a summons to see what happens next, according to Fox59.
