14-year-old Bresha Meadows is sitting in a juvenile detention facility for trying to protect her family.
Earlier this year, Bresha’s father, Jonathan Meadows, had been, allegedly, beating her mother and threatened to kill her entire family. This caused Bresha’s grades to slip and to run away.
Two months later, on July 28, Bresha eventually fatally shot her father in the head to protect her family. According to The Huffington Post, she used a gun her father, reportedly, had threatened her family with.
Bresha now sits in a juvenile detention center in Warren, Ohio, charged with aggravated murder. She pleaded “not true” to the charges, which is the juvenile equivalent of not guilty.
Her mother, Brandi Meadows, is eternally grateful for her daughter, whom she referred to as her “hero.”
“She is my hero,” Brandi cried in an interview with Fox 8 Cleveland, which is posted below. “I wasn’t strong enough to get out and she helped us all.”
Bresha’s relatives have since stepped forward to confirm that her father was, in fact, a very physically and verbally abusive man, whom controlled his wife’s every move.
Back in 2011, Brandi filed a civil domestic violence protection order against Jonathan, stating that in their 17 years of marriage, he cut her, broke her ribs and was likely to kill her and all of their children.
Jonathan’s relatives, however, denied he was abusive.
A pretrial hearing has been scheduled for Aug. 30, but the family has started a GoFundMe page for Bresha in the meantime.
