The annual BET awards always leave the audience begging for more. This year was no exception. Host, Chris Rock kept the audience laughing throughout the show. The show was filled with surprises from beginning to end. Pharell performed and brought the legendary Missy Elliot to share the stage with him.
For those who were familiar with the beef between singers Trey Songz and August Alsina, you will be happy to know that they graced the stage together for an amazing performance featuring the newly freed Chris Brown. The excess pounds didn’t weigh him down as he glided across the stage showcasing his Michael Jackson-esque moves.
With winners ranging from Nicki Minaj to Serena Williams, celebrities kept the crowd guessing. As Nicki Minaj accepted her 5th “Best Female Hip Hop Artist” award, she stated in her speech “What I want the world to know about Nicki Minaj is, when you hear Nicki Minaj spit, Nicki Minaj wrote it.” Obviously a subtle attack at another artist, I wonder who Nicki is claiming doesn’t write their own lyrics. With four other female contenders in her category it could be Eve, Angel Haze, Iggy Azalea, or Charli Baltimore. My money is on the Australian pop star.
The biggest surprise of the night was after hours of waiting for Jay Z and Beyonce to perform, as promised by BET, they showed a clip of the two sent to them electronically. As a proud member of the Beyhive, I was thoroughly disappointed to say the least.
Besides that, the night was filled with laughs, tears and great music.
