Everyone on this planet has talent. Some are not afraid to show it.
The Hot Zone USA went to an exclusive rehearsal of the Garden of Dreams Foundation Talent Show last Thursday. The Garden of Dreams Foundation is a non-profit organization that works with The Madison Square Garden Company to bring magic to children facing obstacles. Since it’s inception in 2006, Garden of Dreams has help create enduring programs and once-in-a-lifetime experiences that have brought joy and happiness to more than 275,000 children and their families.
The rehearsal was a beautiful show to watch as kids from all walks of life performed in front of celebrity judges such as Hoda Kotb from NBC’s Today Show, Damaris Lewis, a Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Model, Essence Carson of the New York Liberty, Jared Grimes, star of New York Spring Spectacular and The Rockettes.
Everyone was amazing during rehearsals. Although, there was a few that stand out. One that caught my eye was nine-year-old Matthew Welling from White Plains, New York. Matthew was born with a fatal genetic disorder (Osteoporosis) and is legally blind. He performed an original piece called “Sunshine.”He blew the audience away with his voice and I was amazed by it. It was just powerful to see a kid who has gone through so much overcome these odds and have such a beautiful voice.
Another performer that caught my eye was sixteen-year-old Brianna Fernandez from Valley Stream, New York. Brianna sadly lost her father in October 2014 to line of duty post 9/11 related cancer. She performed the song “Latch” by Sam Smith which is the last song she sang to him before he passed away. Tears were flowing down my face when she was singing. She stated that everytime she performs, her dad is always there to help her through it.
You can see both Brianna and Matthew perform at the Garden of Dreams Talent Show on Thursday, June 18th at 7pm. Admission is free and open to the public.
