The Academy Award nominations have been announced and people are already talking. The biggest surprise was that Ava DuVernay, director of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. biopic, Selma wasn’t nominated for Best Director. Selma’s breakout star, David Oyelowo, as well as the other co-stars in the film weren’t nominated for Best Actor. However, the film was nominated for Best Picture and Music-Original Song. Guess that’s the “bright side” to the shade.

Selma wasn’t the only snub of the oscar nominees. Amy Adams wasn’t nominated for Best Actress in the film Big Eyes, which is shocking considering she just won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in motion picture, comedy, or musical. Clint Eastwood did not make the cut for Best Director for the film American Sniper. However, Bradley Coopeer was nominated for Best Actor in the film.
