A toddler has shot and killed his baby brother in Georgia.
According to Fox 5 Atlanta, a three-year-old boy and an 18-year-old boy were left in a room with a gun on Saturday. The two adults inside the home had set the gun down, which was owned by one of the adults.
Suddenly, a gunshot was heard. When the adults turned around, they saw the 18-month-old shot. He was believed to have been struck on his face or head. He later died at a nearby hospital.
Police believe that it was the three-year-old who shot the 18-month-old, but they are still investigating if it was actually a self-inflicted wound.
“We are actively investigating if it was an accidental shooting by the three-year-old, or accidentally inflicted by the one-and-a-half-year-old,” Lt. Mike Ireland said.
Police also said that both of the boys’ parents and grandparents were inside the home at the time of the shooting. There is no word on any possible charges, at this time.
The family was given time to grieve on the day of the incident. Police are expected to begin interviewing the parents on Sunday.
Police will continue to investigate the shooting, which they have referred to as a “tragic accident.”
