Earlier this Sunday morning in Midtown Manhattan, a crane was being used in order to hoist an air conditioning unit to the top of a building, when a cable snapped suddenly and the unit began to plummet 28 stories.
The 30 story building, located on Madison Avenue, was damaged due to the AC Unit hitting the side of the building as it plummeted to the ground. A total of ten people suffered injuries due to falling debris including two construction workers and eight pedestrians, luckily these were minor. Streets nearby were closed off to traffic and buses were rerouted as police investigated the situation.
Mayor Bill de Blasio said that the city would begin a full investigation into the matter to determine what caused the incident to occur and added “Thank God this incident occurred at an hour of the day on a weekend when there weren’t too many people around.”
