As a professional athlete, there are some things that should never happen. One of those things is not being able to stay in shape, especially since that is the basis of what your job depends on. Denver Broncos defensive tackle Terrance Knighton has been fined almost $300,000 over his career for not being able to manage his weight.
Although it is not in daily news, this is pretty common for the NFL. According to ESPN, New York Giants coach Tom Coughlin fines players $400 a day for very pound they are over the weight limit which varies depending on the player.
Knighton is listed at 6’3”, 335 pounds so clearly the Broncos would like to have him playing at a lower weight for optimal performance.
This is the kind of news that really infuriates fans and general managers. As a professional athlete, you are given the lucky opportunity of earning a living playing football, which is something millions of Americans can only dream of doing. I understand if a player cannot play well every year, but the least one can do is stay in shape. What do you think?
