Comedian Larry Wilmore left many people stunned after his speech at the White House Correspondence Dinner because of what he said during his speech. Comedians often dare to go where no one likes to go because it’s their job to cross the line and upset people. Wilmore’s speech was no doubt hilarious but towards the end it took a controversial turn.
The speech received lots of laughs but it also received come controversy. During Wilmore’s speech he referenced to President Barrack Obama as the n-word but in an affectionate and endearing manner. There has been mixed reactions as to what he said during his speech. People immediately took to twitter to voice their opinions on the matter.
During his speech he said, “When I was a kid I lived in a country where people couldn’t accept a black quarterback. Now think about that: A black man was thought by his mere color not good enough to lead a football team. And now to live in your time, Mr. President, when a black man can lead the entire free world.”
Then after his touching moment he said what no one has said before which was, “Words alone do me no justice. So Mr. President I’m going to keep it 100: Yo Barry, you did it my n-gg-,” Wilmore said, pounding his chest. “You did it.”
While the moment was endearing and delightful some people couldn’t help but feel weird about what just happened. Although the President himself did not seemed bothered or upset at all in fact it was quite the opposite. He put his hand on chest and then gave the comedian a hug. It was a touching ending to a special event.
