A couple from Utah died tragically on Monday after watching the solar eclipse and falling from a boat.
Passengers Neal Jenkins and wife Elaine Jenkins were thrown off the boat with operator Mike Kingston on the Ririe Reservoir. They tried to complete a turn around 3pm.
The boat then struck all three of them as it continued to do circles around them, leaving them injured.
Witness Adam Frugoli spoke to Post Register about the incident, in which he didn’t know what fully was happening.
“I guess I wasn’t prepared to understand what was happening at the time,” he said. He called the police once he knew what was going on.
The boat eventually stopped moving, after running out of gas. Other boaters then came to their rescue.
Mrs. Jenkins died at the scene and Mr. Jenkins died hours later at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.
Kingston’s condition is still unknown, he was rushed to the medical center by helicopter.
“Part of what they’re investigating is to determine if there was any alcohol abuse or anything like that, or if there was a problem with the boat,” said Bonneville County Sheriff’s Sgt. Bryan Lovell.
“Those are the things we just don’t know right now,” he added.
It’s believed they were in the area to watch the solar eclipse when the tragic accident occurred.
