The illustrious career of Derek Jeter is over.
The 20th and final season of Derek Jeter’s career ended yesterday in the 3rd inning. In Jeter’s last at bat, what does he do? In typical Jeter fashion, he drove in an RBI single. He was later lifted for a pitch runner. When he left the field, the Fenway faithful chanted out “Let’s Go Jeter” and a huge applause.
It wasn’t the perfect ending to his career (his final Yankee home game should have been the perfect ending) but Jeter is happy with the results. Although the Yankees did not make the playoffs this season, Yankee fans get to see an iconic hero one last time.
With Jeter retiring, the era of the Core Four is over. Mariano Rivera and Andy Petitte retired in 2013 and Jorge Posada retired in 2011.
Good luck Captain!
