Auburn’s wide receiver D’haquille “Duke” Williams, punched two security guards, a bartender and another patron, resulting in his dismissal from the team, on Monday.
Williams had been in trouble multiple times during his Auburn career. He became angry when a member of his group was removed from the bar for wearing sunglasses which is a dress code violation.
Williams tried to persuade the people at the bar to get his friend back in by using his status as a football player but was denied. An altercation broke out and police were called to the scene.
“When individuals fail to meet the expectations of our program, there has to be consequences,” Malzahn said in a statement Monday night. “I gave D’haquille the chance to prove himself. I am disappointed that it did not work out.”
Williams was suspended for last year’s Outback Bowl for breaking team rules. In addition, was suspended for a week of preseason practice for a disciplinary issue.
