Donald Trump believes Hillary Clinton has rigged the 2016 presidential debates.
On Saturday, the Republican nominee took to Twitter to express his frustrations with the schedule for the upcoming debates, since two of them will air at the same time as NFL games. He also accused Clinton of rigging the previous Democratic debates last year against her primary rival, Senator Bernie Sanders.
“As usual, Hillary & the Dems are trying to rig the debates so 2 are up against major NFL games. Same as last time w/ Bernie. Unacceptable!” Trump tweeted.
What Trump left out of his tweet was that Commission on Presidential Debates, a non-partisan organization who has sponsored the debates since 1998, scheduled the dates a year in advance.
In a statement released on Sunday, the organization confirmed that the dates would not be moved.
“It is impossible to avoid all sporting events, and there have been nights on which debates and games occurred in most election cycles,” the statement read. “A debate has never been rescheduled as a result.”
Trump has now been rumored to back out of the upcoming debates, which would not be a first for him. Earlier this year, the former Celebrity Apprentice host did not attend a Fox News debate after his spat with the network’s anchor, Megyn Kelly.
If Trump does end up backing out, some believe it is because of his frustrations over the debate schedule, while others think he is actually hesitant to debate Clinton on the issues.
No matter what the businessman decides to do, Clinton confirmed she will attend.
“I am going to be there. That is all I have to say,” the Democratic nominee said at a recent rally.
The first presidential debate is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 26, at Hofstra University.
