Drake and Future finally confirmed that they are working on a joint mixtape, What a Time to be Alive, and it drops today (Sept. 20)!!!
It will be available through iTunes and Apple Music.
The mixtape comes out just two months after Future dropped his new LP DS2, which Drake is also featured on—the hit single “Where Ya At?”
Drake did tease us a little and hint at the mixtape dropping date during his Music Midtown Festival performance in Atlanta on Friday, stating, “Sunday will be madness,” Rap-Up reports.
The cover of the mixtape is a cluster of diamonds, which some people have compared to Jay Z and Kanye West’s album cover for Watch the Throne.
The cover was taken by New York-based photographer, Christina Tisi-Kramer, who explained that the diamonds in the picture are “some of the finest in the world.” She explained that it’s one of her most valued pieces.
“It’s one of my best selling images because of the nondescript luxury items that they are,” she told Complex. Tisi-Kramer admits she doesn’t listen to Drake or Future, but nonetheless, she is “flattered” that an artist used her image. She sells them to stock agencies, so she never really finds out where they end up, but she says she tries to get more work from it.
Well, being the photograph on a Drake and Future mixtape is certainly a way to find more work!
“Maybe [Drake and Future] will use me for something custom down the road,” she said to Complex.
Drake and Future went on the road together this past spring for Drake’s Jungle Tour. Though there was a rift between the two back in 2013, the joint touring and the “Where Ya At?” single squashed all bad vibes.
For those of you who don’t know, back in 2013, Future criticized Drake’s LP, Nothing Was the Same, which resulted in him getting kicked off of Drake’s Would You Like a Tour? tour. Future then demanded $1.5 million in lost wages before the two fixed their beef and went on tour together as it was originally scheduled.
