Another day. Another Eric Garner protest.
Day two of the Eric Garner protest happened yesterday. Protests were held all across the country yesterday after the Grand Jury decision not to indict officer Daniel Pantaleo, who gave the fatal chokehold to Garner last July. The autopsy revealed that it was a homicide and found that a chokehold contributed to it. An expert forensic pathologist hired by Garner’s family, Dr. Michael Baden, agreed with the medical examiner’s findings, saying there was hemorrhaging on Garner’s neck indicative of neck compressions.
In Chicago, protesters walked onto the Dan Ryan Expressway and brought traffic to a halt. And in Washington, D.C, a crowd staged a “die-in” a block from the National Christmas Tree lighting ceremony near the White House.
In New York, 223 people were arrested. Most of them were charged for disorderly conduct. or refusal to leave the streets. The protesters also disrupted traffic near the Holland Tunnel, the Manhattan Bridge and on the West Side Highway. A brief clash between police and protesters at Times Square but that was quickly resolved.
The protests are expected to continue today.
