When it comes to vision, Designer Eyes focuses on “changing the way you see the world and the way the world sees you.” On Tuesday, September 20, the luxury eyewear retailer celebrated the grand opening of its NYC flagship store on the second level of the Westfield World Trade Center Mall, also known as the Oculus. After the cutting of the blue ribbon, guests were treated to gourmet hors d’oeuvres, delectable confections, and sparkling champagne. A live DJ spun a swanky set of dance singles while the crowd—including celebrities, Michael Strahan and Olivia Caridi—mingled among themselves and browsed some 25+ of the most craved eyewear brands in the world.
Spanning 1850 feet, the $3.5 million space is the 7th locale for the Florida-based brand with launches planned for 5th Avenue, Miami, and Beverly Hills within the forthcoming six months. There’s also a Designer Eyes storefront in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
On an ordinary day at Designer Eyes, guests will have access to an eyewear stylist by appointment, concierge services, and complimentary espresso or champagne to sip and shop. Much like a clothing stylist, the eyewear stylist will do a full try-on to match you with the eyewear of your dreams.
In need of a quick replacement, repair, or cleaning? No worries, your eyewear concierge is available at your request for any off-site emergencies.
Designer Eyes is the brainchild of Moroccan-born founder Jacky Amar, who established the family-owned business in 1974. “Our deeply rooted brand partnerships allow us to offer exclusive styles and unique assortments to fashion-forward eyewear connoisseurs,” said Mr. Amar.
“Luxury is no longer defined by cost, it’s defined by the experience, and that’s exactly what our clients will find at the new World Trade Center location.”
So if you’re looking for the all-inclusive super posh treatment from your eyewear retailer, DE is the perfect place for you to indulge. To complete the luxurious experience patrons will receive two framed textured leather cases by Oliver Peoples, a business card holder by Mont Blanc, and a Black Orchard fragrance set by Tom Ford.
Though a brand new addition to the DE franchise this locale obviously didn’t pop up overnight. Before the celebration, I caught up with the founder’s son, David Amar for more details.
“We worked on this project for four years and were handpicked by Westfield globally to be the exclusive eyewear and sunglasses tenant in this mall,” explained the co-owner. Very close to the Bergdorf Goodman approach as I’d like to call it— we are the destination for eyewear,” he added.
David also explained the concept behind the interior design of the new storefront.
“We wanted to design the store in a spacious environment but at the same time homely and inviting with a New York touch to it,” he said.
“Dropping the ceilings is a unique part of the design that we’ve done; very intricate, leading into a different area that highlights unique pieces that we carry and our luxury section in the back which has diamond pieces all the way up to $50,000.”
Adding to the motivational vision behind the family brand David said, “I don’t think there’s a price for your face,” he said also in reference to adorning one’s face with luxury eyewear. “But at the same time, I very much enjoy giving people vision.”
DE’s dedication to providing a luxurious experience in tandem with top-tier customer service for all city-dwellers and tourists alike makes it a go-to luxury eyewear store that we highly recommend.
