A date that was set up on a dating website turns into a robbery homicide for a Florida man and now his kid is an orphan.
After connecting on PlentyOfFish, Adam Hilarie took Hailey Bustos bowling in Winter Haven, Florida, on Thursday, August 18. After the date, Bustos texted Hilarie that she had a great time and would like to see him again. When Hilarie agreed and set up another date for the following evening, Bustos showed up with three armed men. The men forced their way into Hilarie’s apartment and robbed him at gunpoint with a .38 caliber pistol.
According to the arrest report, obtained by the AP, Bustos told authorities that “Hilarie was begging for his life, he was not putting up any kind of fight and was telling them that he had a 5-year-old daughter.”
During the robbery, Hilarie was shot in the head. While Hilarie bled to death on the kitchen floor, the group, which included three men named Andre Warner, Gary Gray and Joshua Ellington then made off with an Xbox console, video games, three flat-screen TVs, an iPhone, a wallet and other items, according to police documents.
Bustos was set to get $50 for the robbery. I guess she didn’t count on the fact that the online dating website would leave a cyber trail that easily allowed authorities to find her and make the arrest.
Hilarie, who was a laborer and aspiring boxer left behind a daughter, LaJaya. There is now a Gofundme page that is raising money for LaJaya and for the costs of Hilarie’s funeral expenses. Hilarie did not have life insurance.
