This year, Forbes went global with their list of the “100 Highest Paid Celebrities.” Instead of using a system that is U.S.-centric, Forbes disregarded nationality and went worldwide.
What does this mean? Well, that means that 32 celebrities are from outside of the U.S.A. There are Bollywood stars (Amitabh Bachchan is worth $33.5 million!), British musicians (Ed Sheeran is number 27), and a certain Russian tennis player named Maria Sharapova…have you heard of her?
Forbes claims that now the list is a “more accurate reflection of the current entertainment landscape.”
However, you’re probably wondering who took the top spots, so we’ll get right to it:
1. Floyd Mayweather: $300 million
2. Manny Pacquiao: $160 million
Spots one and two go to the two boxers whose face-off at the beginning of May was watched by millions of people. With all of the media coverage across the globe of their fight, the fact that these two athletes got the top spots is not surprising!
3. Katy Perry: $135 million
4. One Direction: $130 million
The next two spots go to Katy Perry and One Direction, who both made the majority of their money this year from touring the world. With One Direction playing over 70 shows and Katy Perry performing a whopping 124 live concerts during her “Prismatic World Tour,” this year’s list really reflects the power of “the profound changes in the concert business,” according to Forbes.
Those are your top four highest earning celebrities who were paid nine figures this year! The rest of the list makes eight figures (which still blows our minds), but here is the rest of Forbes’ top ten:
5. Howard Stern: $95 million
6. Garth Brooks: $90 million
7. James Patterson: $89 million
8. Robert Downey Jr.: $80 million
9. Taylor Swift: $80 million
10. Cristiano Ronaldo: $79.5 million
So let us know, did any of the top ten surprise you?
