Derrick Rose has been taking L’s for about as long as I can remember and I don’t just mean on the scoreboard, despite an enormous ceiling for talent.
There are two words that can constantly be associated with the Chicago Bulls point guard, and I don’t mean potentially amazing. INJURIES and TROUBLE tend to follow this man around like his own shadow on a sunny day. Unfortunately, he doesn’t get to enjoy too many of those.
In the midst of some disturbing gang rape allegations, the explosive star sustained a left orbital fracture after taking an unintentional elbow to the face during practice Tuesday afternoon. How surprising. This adds to the slew of injuries that Rose has suffered in recent years, including a devastating ACL tear that ended his 2012 playoff run and caused him to miss the entire 2012-2013 season. He will undergo surgery on Wednesday and the timetable for his return has yet to be determined, though there is some hope that he will be able to play during the Bulls opener against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
In the mean time, he will be battling the previously mentioned allegations, which Rose feels very confident that he will be found innocent of. The unidentified woman accusing Rose of sexual assault, claims that he and a couple of his friends drugged her before raping her in her apartment back in August.
Rose’s attorney maintains in a new court document that “the plaintiff consented to all sexual interaction and was not injured at all, and did not report, show or claim any injuries to anyone.” He goes on to explain that the woman became angry with Rose who was unresponsive to her text message, insinuating that she is simply crying “rape” to shake him down.
Rose’s hearing will take place in February of 2017, but he doesn’t seem to be sweating it. In a press conference that took place on Monday, Rose said that he considers these allegations “motivation. I feel like the Devil is just working,” he said.
Considering his track record, the Devil might definitely have a bit of a vendetta against him. When will this man prosper? These are the questions that ponder us basketball fans in the middle of the night when we rock back and forth awaiting the season’s arrival. As for the rape allegations, we can only hope that Rose is not that guy.
