Jared Fogle, originally known as the Subway spokesperson that lost 245 pounds by eating Subway back in 2000, is now on trial for child pornography.
Well, he’s on trial for child pornography and several other disturbing things, but we’ll get to that.
Fogle, 37, appeared in court to be charged on Wednesday morning and will reportedly plea guilty to all of the charges against him. His attorney also informed the press that he will pay $1.4 million to fourteen victims who were affected by his actions.
According to the information released by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Indianapolis, Fogle received and distributed child pornography, of minors as young as six-years-old, from Russell Taylor.
The scariest part to us, however, is that Russell Taylor was the Executive Director of Fogle’s charity for childhood obesity.
Taylor was arrested in April, after child pornography was discovered in his possessions. It was later discovered that he might have even been filming the minors (in a sexually explicit way) in his own home since 2012.
Now officials know that Fogle knew about the scheme as well. He knew that over a dozen children under the age of 18 (and as young as 13) were being secretly filmed in Taylor’s home, and he knew that Taylor was abusing a 14-year-old girl back in 2011.
But, the story only gets worse.
Apparently, while Fogle was traveling as a representative of Subway (long before the child pornography scandal even began), he would pay to have sex with minors during his business trips.
In 2012, while Fogle was in New York doing business, he paid and had sex with a 17-year-old girl that he knew was underage. He even offered to pay her more if she could find another minor to have sex with him, telling her, “the younger the girl, the better.”
In fact, the court documents released on Wednesday indicate that Fogle’s use of online commercial sex services began back in 2007 and continued up until June of this year!
Fogle’s family used phrases like “shocked…profoundly disappointed…and very concerned” in the statement that they released on Wednesday. The also expressed their gratitude that Fogle is “accepting responsibility… by agreeing to plea guilty to the charges filed today and by volunteering to make restitution to the victims” and that he is “seeking medical treatment.”
His wife, Katie, has also announced that she is “seeking a dissolution” of her marriage to Fogle as a result of these recent discoveries.
Reports indicate that Fogle will serve anywhere from 5 to 12 years in prison by the end of the trial.
