Player for the Tampa Bay Lightning, Ryan Malone was arrested this morning for a DUI and possession of cocaine. The 34-year-old left wing was pulled over and taken into custody at 5:40am ET in Tampa and released on $2,500 bail according to the arrest report from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.
Tampa Police Lt. Paul Lusczynski noted that Malone’s breath smelled like alcohol when he was pulled over early in the morning. 1.3 grams of cocaine were also found his pockets upon arrest.
According to Lusczynski Malone refused to take a field sobriety test but a breathalyzer test taken at the station indicated that he had blood alcohol levels of 0.112 and 0.116 percent. Florida law considers a driver unable to operate a vehicle at .08%.
“We are aware of the situation concerning Ryan Malone this morning,” Lightening general manager Steve Yzerman said in the statement. “Ryan will not travel with the team to Washington today, but beyond that we cannot comment further at this time.”
