Hope Solo thinks that the Swedish Olympic soccer team are a bunch of cowards. In a fiery interview after the U.S. team lost to Sweden in a penalty shootout, she blasted the Swedish team and degraded the coach who formerly coached the U.S team.
Hope Solo, the American Women’s soccer goalie who was notorious for fearing the Zika virus before she attended the Olympic games, and roundly mocked for that fear in the opening game,
is trashing the team that just beat her. Hope Solo told ESPN’s Grant Wahl in an interview that the Swedish team were “a bunch of cowards” for the way they played the game. When asked why they were cowards, Solo responded that she was unimpressed with their lack of passing.
Solo told Wahl; “They dropped into a 50. They didn’t try and press. They didn’t want to open the game. And they tried to counter with long balls. We had that style of play when Pia was our coach. I don’t think they’re going to make it far in the tournament. I think it was very cowardly. But they won. They’re moving on, and we’re going home.” Yes, they are moving on and you are going home. Good riddance.
If you actually watched the game you would know that Hope Solo is full of crap. The Swedish team actually scored the go-ahead goal with 2 minutes remaining in the game only to have it waved off by a terrible off-sides call. The Swedish team deserved to win the game. They ended up beating the U.S Women in a penalty shootout.
Justice was served as Hope Solo failed to stop all but one of the Swedish teams penalty kicks and looked like she barely even tried to stop the rest. Solo even played a little gamesmanship when she took a pause before the last kick while she changed gloves. This forced the last Swedish kicker to stand alone with the ball while she waited for Solo to change gloves. The ploy did not work as Solo never even touched the final kick and seemed casual in defeat as the Swedish women stormed the field and celebrated moving on to the semi-finals.
Hope Solo, never classy, always controversial and a poor sport to boot. Have a safe trip home, Hope. Next time try to lose with dignity.
