Each year Hot 97 brings together thousands of fans to The MetLife Stadium in Secaucus, New Jersey in the name of hip hop. Celebrities had the East Coast lit up Sunday night, June 5th as they took over the Tri-State Area NJ, NY, and Pa….literally. Maino, Uncle Murda, set the stage off and special guest appearances by Kanye was a screamer….he showed out as always performing songs from his hit album “The Life of Pablo.” I could see sweat on him everywhere. The squad had on the big homies sneakers of course brand “Yeezy.” Best thing about #SummerJam besides the guest appearances is it didn’t matter if you were in the very first row or in the 300 sections, the fans were listening to everything Maino, Kanye, Fabolous, Big Sean, Pusha T., and 2Chainz said. The show didn’t stop there they always produce a movie. Desiigner was turnt up and rocked out “Panda” with the crowd “Dabbin” as expected. Guest appearances by Ty Dolla $ign, and Yo Gotti. We “Milly Rocked” with 2Milly and Dutty whined with Movado as he performed his reggae hit “So Special.”
DJ Khaled was impressive to see perform as he stripped his shirt off for thousands of fans. He looked better than ever lol. Rick Ross stayed clothed and rocked on with him. Then came an all time Hip-Hop favorite….The Lox Styles P, Jada Kiss, and Sheek Louch performed “We Gon Make It” and other collaborated hits. The Hot 97 tribute to Muhammad Ali….gone but far from forgotten.
Surprise appearance by our home girl Ashanti was #throwback with her performing “What’s Love” with her long time friend Joey Crack. Remy Ma set the stage off rocking wit Terror Squad. Fat Joe Knew we all were waiting for her “Conceited” ass to kick her verse from the all the way up remix….and she did…”My swag, my flow, I stole it back, they mad, too bad, my shows is packed…” And packed it was as the crowd rapped along a capella to the “All The Way Up” Remix. I don’t know who had the bigger entourage on stage, but the A$AP Mob was extra lit as the strippers hit the stage in bikinis to twerk to the hits performed. Nothing stopped them from putting on one of the best Summer Jam shows ever. The rain stopped for the Hip-Hop Rap Gods as I didn’t feel a drop, maybe I was too psyched up.
The quick fight that broke out that may be talked about was not even a factor. The State Police had the situation under control and the show continued like nothing happened. The only other misfortune was due to the late start some people didn’t show up, like Future a huge headliner people were expecting to see and Tory Lanez unfortunately wasn’t there either. Tinashe Kid Ink, and possibly a few other couldn’t make the Summer Jam due to the late start at 9:30 when it was supposed to start 6:30pm. Kim Kardashian-West and Usher were reportedly on the scene as well along with other celebrities out to catch the biggest Hip-Hop concert of the music industry. By the end of the night we forgot all of hat even transpired. The Summer Jam of 2016 despite the rain was another success for Hip-Hop and R&B.
