Insidious: Chapter 3 can be a great horror movie in it’s own right. It really didn’t capitalize on it.
Insidious 3 is the prequel to the first two movies and is set before the haunting of the Lambert family that reveals how gifted psychic Elise Rainier (played by Lin Shaye) reluctantly agrees to use her ability to contact the dead in order to help Quinn Brenner (played by Stefanie Scott) a teenage girl who has been targeted by a dangerous supernatural entity. She comes to a new house and starts having visions which she thinks are about her dead mother but instead they are spirits which are trying to enter her body just like they do in the first and second chapter of the series.
The major flaw of this movie is the writing. The dialogue of this film is mediocre to say the least. With all the cheesy lines, it seems like this movie was written by a film student.
It’s not all bad. The movie has some terrifying parts that will make you jump. Director Leigh Whannell does a great job in bringing in the fear but the writing just ruins it for me.
The acting is the only saving grace for this movie. Lin Shaye did a terrific job acting in this film. To me, she was the best part of this movie.
Overall, this movie had the potential to be a great horror movie but it fails to deliver. If you are huge horror movie fan then you might want to skip this movie.
