Law enforcement officials have said investigators want to interview a Dr. Howard Kornfeld a pain and addiction specialist and his son pre-med student Andrew Kornfeld about a prescription drug brought to the late legendary singer by Andrew. Now neither the doctor nor his son are accused of any wrong doing however investigators need to talk to them. The attorney of Dr.Kornfeld, William Mauzy said that Prince’s staff called the doctor on April 20, 2016. The doctor then sent his son with the drug buprenorphine on an overnight flight with a Minnesota doctor who was able to prescribe the medication used by Dr.Kornfeld. However when the two arrived they found the singer unresponsive therefore they couldn’t have administered the drug. After finding the singer in the elevator Andrew dialed 911.
There have been reports that the Kornfeld which state that he is not licensed to practice medicine in Minnesota or even registered to treat patients via telemedicine, as the state law requires. Even though the law governing telemedicine practice allows for unexpected situations like medical emergencies, that clause may not be enough to protect the Kornfelds if the state medical board pursues an investigation.
According to reports Mauzy said the late singer’s representatives told Kornfeld that he was dealing with a “grave medical emergency,” the doctor has yet to explain what was the medical emergency. The cause of death has not been released even though an autopsy was done the day after he died the results won’t come in for a few weeks.
Since the singer’s death the younger Kornfeld has been hounded by celebrity photographers but has been avoiding talking about the singer’s death. “Sorry I’m not making a comment at this time,” he said when he was reached by phone. It might a while before we hear about the cause of death until then lets keep listening to his music that bought us joy.
