In a recent interview with Music One, Jay Z was asked to give his thoughts on the music industry today and some of the most popular artists out. One of the names mentioned happened to be Eminem. Who the two rappers happened to be often compared and discussed as the G.O.A.T or (greatest of all time).
Jay Z as he always does, brought the real when speaking on Eminem and his appeal. Labeling him the most overrated rapper of all time…
That’s a pretty unflattering title to hold, but Jay Z explained why. “He dropped a few hot verses back in the day, but he’s been mad average for many years now. He is probably the most overrated rapper of all-time, but he did really well targeting his audience. He is a genius in that sense, but in the bigger scheme of things, there are a million rappers who were and are light-years ahead of him.”
Such a bold statement but Jay may have some validity to his thoughts saying, “The last hot verse he did was on my track”. The track he’s referring to is “Renegade”, where the two joined forces and had Em spit some of his sickest bars to date. With lyrics like,
“Now who’s the king of these rude, ludicrous, lucrative lyrics/Who could inherit the title, put the youth in hysterics/Using his music to steer it, sharing his views and his merits/But there’s a huge interference: they’re saying you shouldn’t hear it”
Jay Z spoke on Em’s album sales as well and how it’s complete BS that he is the highest-selling rapper of all-time.
Sounds like Jigga man could a tad bit bitter since Eminem is not only the best selling rapper of all-time, but also the second best selling individual male artist, only behind Garth Brooks.
In terms of how long it’s been since Eminem’s dropped something that HOT to maintain his status as best selling rapper of all time, Jay may have a point.
