I can’t tell you how happy I am that there is going to be a live-action movie made of one of my most favorite ’80s animated series, Jem and the Holograms. This news is truly outrageous!

John Chu (the director of G.I. Joe: Retaliation), Jason Blum, and Scooter Braun made an announcement via an online video on Tumblr yesterday, and in the video and on the site for the movie they asked fans to be a part of the creative process. One thing fans can do is submit videos of themselves for casting via Tumblr! How cool is that?

Here’s the video of the three guys:

Production for the movie will begin in the spring, and producers say that the plot will “revolve around an orphaned teenage girl who becomes an online recording sensation. She and her sisters embark on a music-driven scavenger hunt –- one that sends them on an adventure across Los Angeles in an attempt to unlock a final message left by her father.” The movie will be reimagined for a “hyperlinked social media age.”

Do you think the movie will be as good as the animated series that ran from 1985 to 1988?
