In a shocking announcement Tuesday morning, Jussie Smollett’s charges have been dropped by the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office. After being charged with 16 felony counts of “disorderly conduct,” the Empire actor leaves the courthouse a free man. It is unclear at the moment as to why the court has dropped the case; however, at this moment in time, there will be no charges against Smollett and he will no longer be prosecuted for his alleged crimes.
Nearly indisputable evidence was provided via video and documentation, showing the alleged attack and written letter that was planted at the Empire studio. Therefore, it is unjust to allow Smollett to walk free without a heavy fine or potential jail time. Smollett is expected to make a statement later today after leaving the courthouse.
After pleading “not guilty,” the court had scheduled a new hearing for April 17. However, after being brought in for an emergency hearing, the judge gave the final verdict, dropping all charges against Smollett. Why there was a sudden change of heart within the court remains unknown for now, but lack of evidence is surely not the reason. Stay tuned for more updates on the Smollett case as he is subject to make a statement later today.
