Kevin Garnett currently plays for the Brooklyn Nets, but he has started to think about his future which includes a return to Minnesota. Not as a player as many of you might be thinking, but as an owner. Garnett played 12 years for the Timberwolves, and is still the franchise’s all-time leading scorer.
Garnett told Yahoo Sports, “I want to buy the Timberwolves. Put a group together and perhaps some day try to buy the team. That’s what I want.” Garnett started his career in Minnesota, and that place his like his home. Garnett also said, “That is the one that has my interest. I have ties there. Flip’s there.”
Being an owner is much different than being a player and even Michael Jordan, arguably one of the best to ever play the game, has had a difficult time adjusting. But Nets general manager Billy King thinks Garnett will be just fine. King said to Yahoo Sports, “He would be one of the best owners in the NBA because he understands what the players need and he understands what it takes to be successful in the NBA.”
Garnett still has some gas left in the tank as he is performing well this season, but once he’s ready to hang it up as a player, I am confident he will thrive as an owner in Minnesota if the opportunity is there for him.
