Many of us consider ourselves passionate fans about certain professional teams, but 31-year-old Dennis Doyle has taken his fandom to a whole another level. The New York Times reported that Doyle has quit his luxurious job as a lawyer to attend all 82 games that the New York Knicks play in. Doyle had to withdraw $20,000 from his savings to accomplish this, so he is clearly a man on a mission. Doyle has been a lifelong fan, and just wants to reignite some passion in his life.
Doyle told the New York Times, “This isn’t just about trying to follow around a good team in order to have a good time. It’s more of a way to immerse myself in something I’ve felt passionate about for a long time — a feeling I never got too much when I was working in my old job.”
Doyle must certainly not be impressed thus far by his favorite team, as the Knicks have gotten off to a shaky 3-8 start. Doyle has even decided to document his journey through all the different cities by starting his own blog called The Oakman Cometh.
Even though the Knicks are not enjoying success at the moment, Doyle is not going to let that ruin his spirits. Doyle also said to the New York Times, “Even if it’s a terrible season, I’m still going to be able to visit all these different cities. I refuse to let the Knicks ruin that.”
Only a New York Knicks fan would be crazy enough to do something like this, but that’s what makes the team so special. Would you ever consider leaving your job to follow your favorite team around for one season?
