In a recent audio post, the owner of the LA Clippers can be heard telling his girlfriend for nine minutes that he does not want her to broadcast the fact that she associates with “minorities.”
He makes racist remarks throughout the entirety of the audio clip but maintains that he is not racist but there is simply “a culture,” that exists. His girlfriend who goes by the name, V. Stiviano, is half Mexican and half African American.
Sterling is still legally married to his wife but they have been separated for years. It seems as though him and Stiviano have an open relationship. He says to her in the clip, “You can sleep with (black people). You can bring them in, you can do whatever you want. The little I ask you is not to promote it on that… and not to bring them to my games.”
He became angry at her when she posted a picture on her Instagram of herself and Magic Johnson. “It bothers me a lot that you want to broadcast that you’re associating with black people. Do you have to?” Sterling can be heard saying.
“I’m just saying, in your lousy f******* Instagrams, you don’t have to have yourself with, walking with black people. Don’t put him (Johnson) on an Instagram for the world to have to see so they have to call me. And don’t bring him to my games.”
This is not the first time that Sterling has been accused of being a racist. He has had two lawsuits filed against him for refusing to rent apartments to minorities. In one case in 2005 he was ordered by the court to pay a 2.73 million dollar settlement. It was also reported that he said he would not rent to African Americans because, “black tenants smell and attract vermin.”
