After criticizing Indonesian palm oil plantations for destroying natural rain forests, Leonardo DiCaprio faces a possible ban from the country.
DiCaprio visited Sumatra, Indonesia last month and took a photo for Instagram that depicted the palm oil industry and how damaging it is to wildlife in the Leuser Ecosystem as Sumatran elephants, tigers and orangutans.
The caption stated, “”The expansion of palm oil plantations is fragmenting the forest and cutting off key elephant migration corridors, making it more difficult for elephant families to find adequate sources of food and water. A world-class biodiversity hotspot … But Palm Oil expansion is destroying this unique place. Now is the time to save the Leuser Ecosystem.”
Heru Santoso, a member of the Indonesian government, replied to the posts and threatened DiCaprio’s entrance to the Southeast Asian country ever again. “We support his concern to save the Leuser ecosystem. But we can blacklist him from returning to Indonesia at any time if he keeps posting incitement or provocative statements in his social media.”
Sheesh Leo. Way to piss of the whole Indonesian government.
