The tragic events that happened Wednesday afternoon has left an entire nation in shock. Two assailants, identified as Syed Rizwan Farook ond his wife Tashfeen Malik, opened fire in San Bernardino at a party in the Inland Regional Center around 11 a.m. Wednesday. 14 people were killed, six women and eight men, and 21 wounded. Recent discovery shows that the majority of the victims were co-workers of the gunman. All victims have now been identified.
President Obama and federal law enforcement officials have said the shooting was possibly related to terrorism but might also be workplace related. Investigators say Malik left a post on a Facebook page using an alias pledging allegiance to ISIS and its leader al-Baghdadi, but the post was later deleted. The couple had 1,400 rifle rounds and 200 9-mm handgun bullets with them as police hunted them down.
Farook, 28, and his Pakistan-born wife Malik, 27, died in a gun battle with police after the mass shooting at the Inland Regional Center.
Mahmood Nadvi, an assistant imam at the Dar Al Uloom Al Islamiyah-Amer mosque in San Bernardino, which Farook began attending in 2014, was equally disturbed. He stated that “You can’t be a true Muslim and sleep after this. We weep for our brothers and sisters lost in humanity”.
President Barack Obama took a moment to reflect on the tragedy and pay tribute to the victims as he and his family led to lighting of the National Christmas tree on Thursday evening.
