Earlier this week San Francisco officials charged Damin Pashilk with starting one of the wildfires that reportedly destroyed 175 homes and other buildings in the northern part of San Francisco. He has now been charged with 14 counts of arson and one count of attempted arson. he has been linked to 13 separate fires going back to July of 2015.
Pashilk appeared in court Wednesday and did not enter a plea.
Pashilk is 40 years old and a former construction worker. Most of the fires he is accused of starting were put out quickly without causing much damage. The worst is the one begun Saturday which destroyed nearly 200 structures in the working-class town of Lower Lake.
Pashilk’s lawyer reported that his client fainted prior to appearing to court. Officials have not disclosed what led them to suspect and arrest Pashilk and the search warrant has been sealed from the public.
There is currently an air quality advisory in Las Vegas due to the California wildfires. The Clark County Department of Air Quality is warning of possibly elevated levels of ozone and smoke, though the levels are reportedly not yet dangerous to people’s health. The advisory is especially focused on young children, the elderly and anyone with respirator issues. Tens of thousands of people have been affected or displaced by the fires and four people are reported dead.
