Quarterback of the Oregon Ducks Marcus Mariota won the Heisman Trophy by a landslide. According to ESPN, Mariota received the second-highest percentage of possible points with a resounding 90.92 percent, making him the obvious choice in this year’s pool. Besides being the first Hawaii native to win the Heisman, Mariota also is responsible for a Pac-12 record of 53 touchdowns.
Upon winning the Heisman Trophy, Mariota made a heartfelt and memorable speech which you can see below. One of his most important lines was, “In Hawaii, if one person is successful, the entire state is successful.” That pretty much sums up the persona that Mariota embodies.
Mariota is a true class act, on and off the field which you can easily see in his genuine speech. Mariota’s season is far from over, as the Oregon Ducks face last year’s Heisman winner Jameis Winston and No. 3 Florida State in the inaugural College Football Playoff on Jan. 1 at 5:00 p.m.
