The Sacramento Kings seem to be getting a lot of attention these days, but it’s not for their current stats.
Power Forward, Matt Barnes and Center, DeMarcus Cousins of the Sacramento Kings are in trouble again after a brawl in NYC nightclub, Avenue. The two NBA All-Stars were in New York, for a game against the NY Knicks and after their third straight loss, 98 to 106, they took another loss that ended in more legal trouble for their roster.
NYPD officers were dispatched to Avenue Nightclub after a 911 call reporting an assault against a male and two females. Reportedly, Matt Barnes choked a woman and got into a physical altercation, punching two men in the face and allegedly ending up on the floor. Matt Barnes is also heard admitting to the assault in a video that police apprehended, “The ni**a was trying to choke Matt. I hit the sh** out this ni**a!”
Matt Barnes posted a message on his Instagram account saying, “There’s always two sides to a story.. The side the media consistently tries to paint of me…. And what actually happened! Don’t believe everything you read”
With both of their reputation, this being Barnes third brush with the law, and the video that has been circling the internet, it’s hard not to believe the hype.
Alex Spiro, lawyer for Matt Barnes, released a statement saying, “We do not believe that a crime was committed and are hopeful no charges will be pressed… We are cooperating fully with attorneys.”
When NYPD arrived at the scene, both Matt Barnes and DeMarcus Cousins were long gone. Police are now looking for them for questioning and we are all wondering how this story will play out.
The Sacramento Kings are scheduled to play Dallas Mavericks Wednesday night and for now, both Barnes and Cousins are scheduled to play.
