We know her for her hysterical roles in Gilmore Girls, Bridesmaids, Spy, and many more. But we never saw this one coming. Melissa McCarthy—fashion designer!
McCarthy just launched her new fashion line, Melissa McCarthy Seven7, and shared the first photos from the label with Vogue on Wednesday.
“I just wanted to do a basic closet that I couldn’t find,” McCarthy told Vogue.
The line suits all kinds of girls and all types of sizes (sizes range from 4 to 28), and the best part is that no piece exceeds $150!
“Some days I want to be prim and proper, and others I want to be in a band. I lost the ability to do that with clothes,” the Ghostbusters actress told the fashion line. “The fun of it is you should be able to put these things together and not have to make a choice about going out to dinner or getting the sweater. Wear the sweater to dinner.”
While it may seem surprising that the 44-year-old star is going into fashion, she explains that it’s actually something she’s always dreamed of accomplishing.
“It’s always what I thought I would do,” McCarthy told Vogue. “ I went into clothing and textiles in college and moved here with Brian Atwood. I was going to finish at FIT and he made me do stand-up on the second night.”
Ahh…Brian Atwood. You fashionistas may know him as the shoe designer who has Beyoncé, Jennifer Lopez, and Nicole Kidman on his list of regular clients. Looks like McCarthy had a foot in the fashion door way before her comedian days.
McCarthy brings her own pizzazz and flare to her roles, and she doesn’t hold back on bringing every inch of that to her line. That means animated prints, patterns, and a-symmetric lines all over the place!
All pieces have a personality of their own, and the whole point of the line, the actress explains, is to bring the runway look to women who don’t fit sample sizes or star budgets. She also aims to meet all real-world needs, like pockets!
“I want pockets in my dressed,” she says. “I put pockets in everything! I want pockets in my pockets.”
If Melissa’s fashion sense is anything like her acting, we’ll all be running to the store to take a peak as soon as it’s out.
The official line debuts on Sept. 1, but you can catch an early look, Aug. 13, on HSN.
