José Fernández of the Miami Marlins and two other men were found dead from a tragic boating accident.
According to CNN, the 24-year-old pitcher and the two other men died after their boat was found at the entrance of Miami Harbor.
The crashed boat was found at 3:15 a.m. on Sunday morning. Two of the men’s bodies were found under the boat. The other’s was found on the rocks.
Fish and Wildlife Commission public information officer Lorenzo Veloz said that based on the severe damage to the 32-foot boat, it crashed onto the rocks at full speed.
“The boat is a total loss right now from what we can see, it’s bad, there’s no other word for it, it’s horrible, it’s bad, it’s bad, ” Veloz said.
This tragic incident has left the baseball world devastated.
“I’ve never met anyone who extracted more joy, more passion out of what he did than José Fernández,” baseball analyst Buster Olney stated on ESPN. “When you watched him pitch, he loved it so much. He had so much emotion.”
Fernández’s death came just a few days after announcing that his girlfriend is pregnant.
“I’m so glad you came into my life. I’m ready for where this journey is gonna take us together. #familyfirst,” Fernández wrote on Instagram.
The Miami Marlins announced Fernández’s death in a statement, where they expressed their sympathies for Fernández’s loved ones.
“The Miami Marlins organization is devastated by the tragic loss of José Fernández. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this very difficult time,” the statement read.
