Some of former Secretary of State Colin Powell’s most-telling emails have been leaked.
According to Daily Mail, emails between Powell and Jeffery Leeds, who is a wealthy private equity investor, were obtained by The Intercept and leaked by D.C. Leaks.
These controversial emails had to do with the 2016 presidential nominees: Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump.
In one exchange between Leeds and Powell, Leeds stated that all Clinton wants is to win the election, and she, allegedly, hates President Barack Obama for beating her in 2008.
“It’s the one prize she wants. She has everything else. And she HATES the President (“that man” as the Clintons call him) kicked her a** in 2008. She can’t believe it or accept it,” one email read.
Leeds also shared a story about Clinton’s health. He wrote that Rhode Island Senator Sheldon Whitehouse told him that “she could barely climb the podium steps” when they gave a speech together in 2015.
Powell, too, discussed Clinton’s health, when he wrote, “On HD TV she doesn’t look good. She is working herself to death.”
Of course, the topic of Clinton’s emails was also discussed. In one email, Leeds wrote that the idea of Clinton being a criminal, which stems from her email scandal, is far from over, and President Obama would not care if she faced charges.
“No one likes her and the criminal thing ain’t over,” Leeds wrote.
He also stated, “I don’t think the president would weep if she found herself in real legal trouble. She’ll pummel his legacy if she gets a chance and he knows it.”
Powell also weighed in on the email scandal by writing, “Everything HRC touches she kind of screws up with hubris.”
As for Donald Trump, Powell referred to him as a “national disgrace” and called his anti-Obama birther moment “racist.”
Like Clinton’s recent “basket of deplorables” comment, Powell also criticized Trump’s core supporters.
“Trump conceivable take it to the convention. He appeals to the worst angels of the GOP nature and poor white folks,” Powell wrote.
Powell’s emails do not really reveal any new information about either candidate. However, the most interesting thing about them is that well-known and established political figures, such as Powell, think of Clinton and Trump the way most Americans do. They seem to agree that Clinton is shady about both her emails and health, while Trump is racist and brings that out of his supporters. Like us, Powell seems to be more than ready for this election season to be over.
