MTV announced the VMA nominations on Tuesday morning and Nicki Minaj has not been holding back her frustration with the choices.
The “Anaconda” rapper first questioned why the masterpiece that was the “Feeling Myself” video didn’t get any recognition at all. The video, which she stars in alongside Beyoncé, came out only a day after Taylor Swift’s star-studded video for “Bad Blood,” and practically upstaged it.
However, Swift’s video was the only one nominated for Video of the Year.
Minaj also came down on MTV for not recognizing her video for “Anaconda” as one of the top music videos of the year. She exclaimed that if she were a “different kind of artist” then the video would have received a Video of the Year nomination, or at least a nomination for Best Choreography!
She echoed the complaints of many Twitter users when she tweeted “U couldn’t go on social media w/o seeing ppl doing the cover art, choreo, outfits for Halloween…an impact like that & no VOTY nomination?” She even referenced Ellen’s cover of the choreography, which has over 17 million views on YouTube!
She may have even called out Swift when she tweeted, “When the “other” girls drop a video that breaks records and impacts culture they get that nomination.”
Oh boy…this should be interesting.
Minaj was not completely dissed, however. She was nominated for Best Collaboration (“Bang Bang”), Best Female Music Video, and Best Hip-Hop video (both for “Anaconda”).
