The famous brand of the behind-the-counter cough syrup has stopped the production and distribution of its product recently. Actavis, the brand of Promethazine codeine, will be discontinued due to the irresponsible intake of some of today’s celebrities. They feel the medicine is being used and abused as a drug.
Promethazine is generally used to treat allergies, pain, vomiting, nausea and uncontrolled coughing. Music artists such as Justin Beiber, Lil Wayne and Soulja Boy used the cough medicine to get a high feeling of comfort. Actavis says that celebrities wrongful promotion and glorification of the product is the reason for its discontinuation.
The ‘Sizzurp’ drink is mixed with Promethazine Codeine (which is prescribed by doctors) and Sprite soda. After intake of the drink, it usually causes extreme drowsiness, but is considered a good feeling to some people. The sizzurp (also known as lean for giving the leaning effect) is a purple-ish color, but can be other colors as well.
On Soulja Boy’s Instagram page, he posts a photo of the cough syrup. The Superman rapper had 6 bottles lined up and the caption says “Soulja got the juice. They say the streets dry. I say you gotta be kiddin me. I serve everybody”. Unfortunately, these two aren’t people that enjoy the rush from the drink. It is very popular in today’s pop culture.
What will these artists rap about now? Lean or sizzurp is mentioned in almost every rap song; its just as big as twerking. It seems like liquor or champagne is played out. Without the medicine, I wonder if there will be a new drink in everyone’s cup to make them feel good.
