One person has died and another has been left injured after a van crashed into two bus stops in the French city of Marseille on Monday – it is not terrorist-related.
The driver, according to French officials, is being treated for psychological problems, and has been arrested.
The van mounted the pavement at 8:15am and hit and injured a 29-year old person. 45 minutes later, the van then crashed into a second bus stop six miles away. This time, the driver killed a 42-year old woman.
The van is a Renault Master van and was driven by a 35-year old male known to the police for “acts of minor delinquency”.
One witness spoke to BFMTV about the incident.
“It happened very quickly, 15-20 seconds. It had to be deliberate,” they said.
The incident is not being treated as terrorist-related. It comes after a 22-year old driver ploughed into pedestrians in Barcelona on Thursday.
