Parents are raising awareness on the apparent glass that is found on “Huggies” wipes which is injuring the children.
Melissa Estrella, a concerned mother, posted a video Thursday night on Facebook, that gained more than 5 million views. In it, she opens three packages of “Huggies” baby wipes and brushes off the glass shards with her fingers.
“I’m not lying, you guys. There’s glass on my daughter’s wipes,” say Estrella in the video. “I’m just so heart broken I didn’t notice this sooner.”
That video was removed from Facebook.
Jessica Armstrong, another mother, wrote on Facebook saying, “Checked my daughters wipes and found glass too!”
Armstrong said her daughter has had, “some rash and scratches on her bum,” according to ABC7.
However, other parents think the problem is being made up:
“I did notice what looks like very small specks of crystal or glass in my Huggies wipes after reading the complaint. It kind of glints in the light,” John Martinez wrote on the “Huggies” Facebook page. “However, I tried my hardest to pick some out with tweezers and failed to do so. I also rubbed the wipe up and down my arm for about 3 or 4 mins about as hard as I could. The result was no burns, no scratches, no discomfort. For all I know, it’s something that is suppose to be there.”
“I’m not seeing what a lot of y’all are seeing or feeling,” Mindy Ireland wrote on the “Huggies” Facebook page.. “What really gets me is how you all of a sudden have a problem NOW!!! I have read comments where parents are wiping them on the arms and they are causing a ‘rash,’ seriously how hard are you scrubbing your arm? Because if you are scrubbing your babies butts that hard you may have a problem.”
“Huggies” rapidly wrote a statement for all the parents on their Facebook page.
“As some of you may have heard, a concern about our wipes was raised recently on Facebook. We take any concerns about our products very seriously and we are working directly with this parent to learn more about what happened and how we can help. Nothing is more important than the safety of the little ones who use our products,” wrote “Huggies.” “Families put their trust in “Huggies” wipes every day, and all of our “Huggies” products have been thoroughly evaluated to ensure they are safe. In addition, we have stringent quality controls in place, and no glass is used during the manufacture of our wipes. As parents ourselves, we know you may have additional questions or concerns. Please don’t hesitate to contact us.”
