New questions are being raised about Hillary Clinton’s time as Secretary of State.
In a report from The Associated Press, it has been confirmed that more than half of the people Clinton met with as Secretary of State donated money to the Clinton Foundation.
As Secretary of State, the 2016 Democratic presidential nominee spoke with 154 people from private interests either in person or over the phone. In total, the 85 people who donated gave $156 million to the foundation. At least 40 of them donated more than $100,000 each, while 20 gave more than $1 million.
The report did confirm that neither Clinton nor husband Bill violated legal agreements they signed when she became Secretary of State in 2009 by receiving money for these meetings. However, her ethics are coming under fire, yet again, due these meetings seeming to be pay for play, which is when one has to pay a certain amount of money to engage in some sort of activity.
This information joins the long list of corruption allegations plaguing the Clintons. Now, some are considering Clinton’s tenure as Secretary of State as nothing more than an elaborate way to score a substantial amount of money for the Clinton Foundation.
Clinton is also being heavily criticized for these meetings, since she has been adamant that there was no connection between her time as Secretary of State and her work with the Clinton Foundation. Based on the amount of money she was able to receive due to her position in government, she may have been lying about just how closely her positions were linked.
Clinton’s GOP rival, Donald Trump, called her out for these possible lies.
“Hillary Clinton strongly stated that there was ‘absolutely no connection’ between her private work and that of The State Department. LIE!” Trump tweeted.

Despite the clear evidence against her, Clinton may be able to get away with this scandal. It seems as though every time some potentially damaging information is released about her, something else happens to overshadow it. Typically, outrageous comments from Trump gain more media attention, but it is likely that the devastating earthquake in Italy will be much more focused on today that Clinton’s meetings, causing people to quickly move on from this potential scandal.
